According to Statistics Estonia, Estonian grain production reached 1,303,500 tonnes in 2024, which is 9% more than the previous year. The largest share of this quantity, 57%, was wheat, followed by barley (24%), oats (10%) and rye (6%).
55% of Estonia’s 2024 grain harvest, or 710 thousand tons, was exported from Estonia through the Muuga Harbour. Estonian grain reached both European markets and distant destination countries around the world. The largest export volumes went to Spain and Nigeria, but also to Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Portugal and 13 other different countries. In addition to Estonian grain, 26 thousand tons of grain of Kazakh origin was handled at the Muuga Harbour, which moved from us to Italy.
The most processed grain was wheat, with over 462 thousand tons exported through the Muuga Harbour, with wheat exports increasing by 13%. This was followed by barley, whose exports doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 170 thousand tons. Oat exports increased tenfold, reaching 38 thousand tons. The only grain that decreased was rye, which was handled by about 8%, but which was also the least, or a total of 2.8 thousand tons. The only grain imported to Estonia through the Muuga Harbour was corn, with 20 thousand tons imported from Poland.
In addition to the grain terminal operated by the historic MGT Muuga Grain Terminal, other companies such as PK Terminal, Bulk&Tank and HHLA-TK Estonia also handle grain in the Muuga Harbour.
The total bulk cargo volumes of the Port of Tallinn in 2024 were nearly 2.6 million tons, an increase of 19.4% compared to the previous year.
