In 2023, the freight volume on the Estonian Railways infrastructure totaled almost 4.8 million tons, which is 39% less than last year. The most transported cargo groups on the Estonian Railways infrastructure were liquid mineral fuels, bulk cargo and oil shale.
The volume of local transport was almost 2 million tons, which decreased by 25% compared to the previous year. In 2023, transit transport accounted for a total of approximately 2.1 million tons of transport on the Estonian Railways, which is 47% less than in 2022. Container transports on the Estonian Railways infrastructure totaled 24.7 thousand TEU during the year, which is 59% less than in 2022.
Almost 7.8 million passengers traveled by train in the local network in 2023, which has increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2022.
